what’s news We Are Water Foundation Global awareness raising for World Water Day The Foundation organised activities around the world to encourage a new culture of water based on fair,sustainable distribution Today, some 750 million people lack access to drinking water and 2,500 million do not enjoy basic sanitation. These bleak figures motivate the We Are Water Foundation to continue with the awareness-raising initiatives and activities it promotes, year after year, on World Water Day in support of this basic human right to water. Under the United Nations slogan Water and Sustainable Development, actions focused on the possibility of contributing solutions and opening up new lines of debate, taking as a point of reference the words of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, who stated that “We depend on water for public health and equitable progress, and water is essential for food and energy security, and it supports the performance of industries. To eliminate the various problems related to water, we need to work in a spirit of urgent cooperation, with an open mind to new ideas and innovation, and being able to share the solutions that we all need for a sustainable future.” Therefore, on 22ndMarch, the We Are Water Foundation celebrated World Water Day in a number of countries by unveiling a mural full of grey dots to be filled in with stickers in the form of water droplets, to cover all the areas of our planet. All under the common slogan, “With your help, a fair distribution of water is possible”, which the Foundation took to Argentina, India, Bulgaria, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Croatia, the Czech Republic and Spain. This year, Spain was one of the countries most involved, placing murals in strategic points in the country’s most important cities, Madrid and Barcelona. What’s more, famous sportspeople and personalities from the world of Raising awareness in India music came out in support of the cause, sticking their drop of water on the map. Also to mark World Water Day, in collaboration with the IABM (International Association of Broadcast Meteorology), the Foundation organised the international workshop Social Perceptionsof Water and Climate at the Roca Barcelona Gallery.
