19 2019 A World Water Day focused on raising awareness and getting to know the reasons for the lack of access to safe water The We Are Water Foundation joins the celebration by supporting the slogan “Leaving No One Behind”,chosen by United Nations this year World Water Day, which is globally celebrated on the 22nd March, has focused this year on raising awareness and getting to know the reasons for the lack of access to safe water under the slogan “No One Behind”, defined by United Nations. As in previous occasions, the We Are Water Foundation wanted to contribute to giving visibility to this problem by organizing different activities. One of these activities was the round table “Leaving No One Behind”, in which the reasons why millions of people still do not have access to safe drinking water were discussed. The participants in the conference were Martí Oliveras, geographer and climatologist; Héctor Casanueva, executive vice president of the EU-LAC Permanent Academic Forum; Carlos Mario Gómez, adviser to the Directorate-General for the Environment of the European Union and Xavier Torras, Director of the We Are Water Foundation. Moderated by Alejandro Maceira, Director of iAgua and of Smart Water Magazine, the speakers offered their vision on the current water situation and discussed how different factors such as climate change, the population increase and poverty will affect it in the next few years.The participants in the conference joined the campaign #TheHiddenLifeOf Water This year, in order to contribute to raising global awareness, the We Are Water Foundation has also issued a deformed world map based on the access to drinking water basic services of the inhabitants of each country, which provides a quick glance at the most disadvantaged regions. Moreover, the actions organized by the We Are Water Foundation also include the global campaign “The hidden life of water” (#TheHiddenLifeOfWater), which highlights the Sustainable Development Goals; and actions in other countries such as Portugal, India, Argentina or UK.
