17 2018 Architect Ruy Ohtake presented his washbasin collection Roca was joined on the stand by the prestigious Brazilian architect of Japanese origin, Ruy Ohtake, creator of the Tomie Ohtake Cultural Institute. Ruy Ohtake presented his washbasin collection for Roca at the trade fair. It is worth mentioning that this collection received the Best in Show prize for Best Vitreous China Sanitary Ware. These prizes are a selection of the best products exhibited at the Expo Revestir, chosen by journalists, interior designers, architects and opinion leaders. The accolade is awarded by ANFACER (National Association of Ceramic Manufacturers for Tiles, Sanitary Ware and Congenerates) with support from Apex-Brasil, the Brazilian agency for promoting exports and investment, and demonstrates how well Roca products are received in this country. The Ruy Ohtake collection comprises four washbasin models with curved, highly organic lines in five colours that are manufactured using Fineceramic®, the material that allows maximum durability with minimum thickness. This is the first time that the Brazilian architect has designed a bathroom product and he drew inspiration from the egg: “A natural element of exceptional quality. Its rigidity is amazing considering the thinness and fineness of the shell,” commented the architect in an interview in the magazine Casa. “I like curved forms, they are more difficult than straight elements. The perception of a curved element is unpredictable, as it can have many viewpoints,” added Ruy Ohtake, who translated his recognisable architectural touch into the design of the product. This collection was also exhibited – along with the other Best in Show prize-winners from Expo Revestir – at the Fuorisalone in Milan, held as part of the Salone del Mobile.
